About Us
Hi, my name is Ophelia. I’m a mother to two incredible children, both with beautifully unique minds, each on their own path within the spectrum.
When we received our first diagnosis in 2021, everything changed. My husband and I felt overwhelmed, uncertain, and honestly, afraid of what the future might hold. We didn’t know what life would look like, or how we would support our son in the way he needed. The weight of that moment was heavy—for us, and for our very little boy.
What followed were long nights filled with searching, learning, and reaching out. We spoke to schools, explored programs, submitted countless applications, and navigated a system that often felt slow and unclear. Over time, we found our footing—a place that became both a landing spot and a launch pad for our son. But much of that progress came from taking matters into our own hands, rather than waiting for support to come to us.
By the time our second diagnosis came, we were different. More prepared. More informed. Ready to build the right framework for both of our children. We learned how to advocate, how to assemble the right support systems, and how to set meaningful goals for our family.
And that’s why Empowering Special Minds exists.
Because no parent should have to navigate this journey alone.
There is a growing community of families right here in Calgary who understand what you’re going through—families who are learning, building, and advocating every day, just like we are. Our goal is to connect you to that community, share what we’ve learned, and help you discover the tools, supports, and out-of-the-box approaches that can make a real difference for your child.
We are not a large organization, we’re parents, just like you. Everything we do is grounded in empathy, lived experience, and a deep belief that progress begins with action.
If we can do it, so can you—and we’re here to walk alongside you.
Don’t wait to get started. Reach out, connect with us, and take the first step toward building a plan that supports you and your child—because every special mind deserves the opportunity to thrive.
